By now, you’ve likely heard the big news. We recently announced our expansion to include the entire Intermountain West. Along with our new footprint, Idaho-Nevada Community Development Financial Institution excitedly unveiled a new name. We are now NewWest Community Capital, but you can simply call us NewWest. NewWest will now span beyond Idaho and Nevada, to provide affordable housing and community facility financing to Montana, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming.
So why the new name?
There are several reasons we chose to refresh our name. First and foremost, we feel the NewWest name better represents both our newly expanded region and the services we provide to our communities. The idea of the American West has always been associated with opportunity and optimism. People have always flocked westward to embrace new ideas, fulfill their promise and create a better future. NewWest Community Capital supports this western ethos by dedicating ourselves to funding the bedrock of successful communities: affordable housing and community facilities. And finally, in all honesty, our old name was quite a mouthful!
What does the expansion mean for NewWest?
We believe that a comprehensive regional approach to poverty alleviation will have the greatest impact, as will partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations. With a shift to a broader geographic area, we will be able to open more doors for organizations to receive financing and build affordable housing in disadvantaged areas. We think of the expansion as a way to maximize our impact.
Has NewWest’s mission changed?
Absolutely not. Affordable housing and the lack of community infrastructure are pressing issues that challenge the well-being of every American. We believe that the best way to fix this is to provide more opportunities to build affordable housing and community facilities. Our commitment remains the same, to support the needs of our underserved communities through responsible financing and strategic counseling.
